Obsession...And it's still growing!

It's safe to say that I think I have an obsession with vintage sheets (among other things!). They are the focus of my thrifting every Friday afternoon immediately after work. I've managed to acquire over 70 sheets, and I haven't even managed to count the pillowcases and napkins. Ugh! It's kinda sad, but they are so pretty! and look well coordinated with one another. That's my excuse anyway, lol, what I tell myself to convince me to buy just another. I'm running outta space. I don't have enough space as it is, but I've managed to fill one of my shelving cases two-thirds full with my linen collection. All I can say is, SWAP ANYONE (lol)?!

Quilted vintage sheet laptop bag-finito!

I was in need of a new laptop bag, one that was more personalized to my taste. Thumbing through my various sewing books, I came across Jenny Ryan's Sew Darn Cute and found the Ladylike laptop tote. It was along the same lines of wat I wanted but not exactly what I wanted. (Besides her dimensions were a bit small for my laptop.) So I got out a bunch of yellow vintage sheets and some new yellow polka dot fabric. I decided to piece 2 inch strips and embroider a flock of birds on the front of it. I like the out come, but the only thing is I can't fit my laptop in it (lmao!). The zipper is too shortl otherwise I could fit it in. Darn! I sure hate to take out that damned zipper... Oh well! It makes a cute overnight bag now!

I love yard sales, garage sales, estate sales, thrift shops and antique shops. There's just something about rummaging through other people's old things that brings joy to me. A few weekends ago I meandered my way to an estate sale in a part of the city close to my house that I didn't even know existed. I'm so glad I talked myself into going. I got mounds of vintage linend for $4.75. Everything was half price that day. I also visited some thrift stores and yard sales and acquired even more linens and goodies.

Vintage sheet swap on swap-bot

I've been participating in a lot of swaps on swap-bot lately, and one of my favorite ones to participate in is the Vintage Sheets for fabric rounds. It requires 2 vintage sheet fat quarters and that's it. But I have been adding customized keychain pouches that match the fat quarters for their pleasure.

I flew home from the doc office today to get dressed for work so I could spend 15 minutes in the store before work lol. Pitiful, I know. All in all I found 2 sheets and a kiwi green pillowcase (this color I am very fond of being that I have a sheet of the same hue). Now I'm happy; I got my fix. :) There is hope, yet, for us addicts.

one of the wallets I made from vintage sheets

I made a checkbook cover with this vintage print just to show the people I work with and turns out a friend of mine that I work with wanted one with credit card slots in it. And me being the person I am, I went home and whipped it up and brought it to her the next day. She really enjoyed it. We both share a love for owls so I put her an owl button closure..... I like to see satisfied people especially friends.

Thrifting today!!!

I was really intending on catching up on my sleep and catching up on my sewing today. WRONG! I went out at about 9:30 this morning, deciding to go to Goodwill because I have not been to ours in a long time. Well going to Goodwill led to going to another thrift store which led to an antigue mall. And lemme tell you did I get a heap of stuff today. I didn't even go to the Salvation Army, lol.

Hi All!

A coworker of mine has been telling me that i really need to start up a blog, and in the back of my mind I was always saying yeah but sort of afraid. Well I have been making a pact with myself that I will become more adventurous and willing to positive ideas...so here goes. I have been sewing so much now that I am out of classes for summer. Hopefully I will have this newfound creative streak flowing through when classes start back. Anyway I would like to show a few projects that I have been working on lately.
I was in desperate need of a new laundry bag. The old dollar laundry bag that I had purchased from Target four or so years ago finally had it. So I gathered up one of my vintage pillowcases, a vintage sheet, and long zipper and sat d0wn to work. I'm pretty satisfied with it and the ladies at work love it.

I was just toying around with some other vintage sheets and came up with a little makeup bag. I really love vintage sheets.
